Prof. Dr. Thomas Schwartz at Wirtschaftsclub Rhein-Main

Date: 19.11.2026
From 18:30, starts at 19:00

Venue: Villa Bonn, Siesmayerstrasse 12, 60323 Frankfurt am Main

Topic:
Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine has fundamentally changed Europe’s political and economic order. At the same time, many countries in Central, Eastern and South-Eastern Europe face profound social challenges: demographic change, emigration, economic imbalances and the difficult process of moving closer to the European Union.

Through his work as Chief Executive of Renovabis, Prof. Dr. Thomas Schwartz knows the region first-hand. He reports on people’s circumstances on the ground, the consequences of war and political tensions, and the prerequisites for sustainable reconstruction. He also addresses Germany’s and the European Union’s responsibility for stability, economic development and social cohesion in Eastern Europe.

The talk offers a perspective beyond the daily headlines and shows why Eastern Europe’s future is crucial to peace, security and prosperity across the continent.

Speaker:
Father Prof. Dr. Thomas Schwartz has been Chief Executive of Renovabis, the German Catholic Church’s aid organisation for Eastern Europe, since 2021. He studied theology and philosophy in Münster, Augsburg and Rome, and earned his doctorate in moral theology in 2001. Alongside his many years as a priest, he teaches business and corporate ethics as an honorary professor at the University of Augsburg.

Through numerous visits and collaboration with local partner organisations, Thomas Schwartz has extensive knowledge of political, social and humanitarian conditions in Central, Eastern and South-Eastern Europe. His work combines practical assistance with fundamental questions of responsibility, human dignity and a Europe founded on solidarity.
